"This is Sea Kayak L.O.R.A.H."

It's an Island Kayaks Expedition, designed by the company in Skye and manufactured in Sri Lanka. I bought the boat off a mate second hand which is how I justify having a boat that is made so far away. It's a really nice boat with high volume so it's good for expeditions, and also quite flat bottomed so turns pretty easily.

I was recently reading an article about naming boats on the UKRGB about naming boats, and I thought naming the boat would be good for two reasons: it would give it some identity and character, and it would give me something to say to the coastguard if ever I have to speak to them over the VHF.

So I decided my boat is female and is called L.O.R.A.H. (Life of Respect and Hope) - pronounced as Laura. Here she is...

Not the best photo I know, it's actually just a still from video. I'll take a better one this weekend, and then also one with all the kit on, just before I leave.

I'm going to use this page as an update on things that happen to the boat.

February - Fibre glass reinforcing of dodgy bits

April - Fibre glassing keel line and fitting solar panel pictures

(see May blog for writing about solar panel and keel line)

Keel line stuff...

Solar panel stuff...

The finished product....
